Turbosmart Electronic StraightGate ESG50 External Wastegate

The StraightGate50 is the highest flowing wastegate on the market by its efficient butterfly-style valve and straight body, meaning the exhaust gas is no longer required to be turned 90 degrees like in the case of a traditional poppet-style gate. Turbosmart’s eSG50 Electronic StraightGate is a patent pending, world-first Electronically Actuated Butterfly Style External Wastegate.

No reference hoses, no springs and no diaphragms. Enjoy full electronic control via a servo motor and Turbosmart’s zero-backdrive gearbox, which results in lower current demands as well as operation stability against huge drive pressures. The eSG50 includes onboard sensors covering actuator temperature as well as valve position in both analog and digital. The Electronic actuation results in the widest possible tuning window from zero boost (if manifold priority allows for it) to all available boost.

You will need a programmable ECU (Engine Control Unit) and a ‘High Current’ (20Amp) output H-Bridge output. This can be done on some ECU’s (speak with your manufacturer) or, via an external H-Bridge module. The Turbosmart BlackBox is available as an external driver which can be controlled via recalibrated / programmable factory ECU’s (Via traditional PWM boost control output) or with a programmable aftermarket ECU via PWM, 0-5v Analogue output or with CAN based override.

The VBand allows rotation through 360 degrees with no impact on valve operation. Furthermore, the Billet Actuator bracket can be clocked to any of the three options provided by the 3-pin mounting system, providing a huge range of mounting options to fit into even the most complex and packed modern engine bay. There are design elements to ensure the least heat transfer possible into the diaphragm housing, and Turbosmart has validated this to 1300 Degree C with no impact on performance and reliability. These units are best mounting in the manifold prior to the turbocharger in the stream of the full exhaust flow for best control.
